Managing Yesterday's Infrastructure Using Tomorrow's Technology is the theme and the challenge being explored at Future Water Networks 2018.

Across England & Wales alone, there are over 340,000 km of water mains and over 620,000 km of sewer and drain systems. These underground assets are critical to a sustainable future, yet this infrastructure is aging and all too often its underlying condition is unknown, with many pipes dating back over 100 years.

With a changing environment, an expanding population and increasing urbanisation, the need to be flexible is key for a sustainable 'underworld'. There is a need for resilience and innovation to be at the forefront of thinking and action in the sector.

This challenge requires a 'smart' approach – one driven by data, data that can be used and acted on Smart, whilst dominating current thinking is not necessarily the latest gadget, or piece of software – it is about holistic management of infrastructure as systems, learning from other industries and countries, optimising current practices and behaviour, along with more value placed on data and analytics which produce actionable information.

Artificial Intelligence systems are already being applied in the water sector and FWN 2018 will explore case studies from both the water and wastewater networks demonstrating the value that AI can bring.

Future Water Networks 2018 is focused on 'Managing yesterday's infrastructure using tomorrow's technology' and how to apply new systems to network management. The conference will open on 3rd December with a session, of the highly regarded 'Water Dragons' in front of a live audience and judges from across the sector where the focus will be on innovation in the 'Wastewater network'. The winner of Water Dragons will be announced after the event, during a dinner which will also include a keynote speaker from the industry.

On the 4th December speakers from a number of the water companies, regulators and the supply chain will challenge current thinking and demonstrate the use of AI systems and data driven systems thinking.

In addition, there will also be the opportunity to showcase your service or products in the exhibition area which will be running alongside the event. Sponsorship and Exhibition Opportunities are also available at very competitive rates – join those such as Lanes Group already on board.
