Introduction to Trenchless Technology

TT Intro01 copyTrenchless Technology is the science of installing, repairing or renewing underground pipes, ducts and cables using techniques that minimise or eliminate the need for excavation.

The use of such techniques can reduce environmental impact, social costs and at the same time provide economic alternatives to traditional open cut methods of installation, renewal or repair.

Essential to the success of such methods are training, thorough site survey (see Location, Detection & Inspection), planning, material and equipment choice.

The techniques themselves can be broken down into these areas:

Location Detection & Inspection
Localised Repair Techniques
Lining Techniques
Replacement Techniques
Pipe & Cable Laying Techniques
Keyhole Technology
